India’s street vendors work in some of the harshest conditions imaginable — standing in 40–45°C heat for 8 to 12 hours a day, with no shade, no cold storage, and no safety net. As climate change pushes temperatures higher every year, the people who feed our cities are paying the heaviest price.

Street vendors registered with Municipal Corporations or Town Vending Committees under the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014 will now be deemed registered under Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.

The National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) has written to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi urging immediate implementation of the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014 and compliance with the Delhi High Court order dated 9 February 2026.

In Jahangirabad, the administration allotted permanent vending spaces to 124 street vendors through a transparent lottery system, with 101 vendors placed in the bus stand area and 23 in the Naya Tola–Rajabazar vending zone, ensuring livelihood security and reducing repeated eviction.

The Himachal Pradesh High Court (2024) directed authorities to conduct a street vendor survey within a fixed timeline and thereafter implement the provisions of the Street Vendors Act, 2014, including issuance of Certificates of Vending and preparation of a vending plan

The Allahabad High Court (Lucknow Bench) held that street vendors cannot be evicted or relocated until a valid vending plan is approved and the survey and Certificates of Vending are completed under the Street Vendors Act, 2014
