Zone Wise Webinar on Street vending in India
Street Vendors are one of the most adversely affected sections due to Covid-19 pandemic. There have no livelihood for the last three months. Hardly 10 percent were able to vend (vegetables and fruits vendors) and 90 percent of faced challenges to life and livelihoods. Despite several restrictions being eased and the process of unlocking well under way, street vendors across India continue to struggle.
NASVI organised a zone wise (East, West, North and South) webinars so that policymakers, activists, vendor and leaders can discuss the problems faced by the street vendors amid the COVID – 19 pandemic. One webinar to discuss the issues of Street Food Vendor was also organised.
Shri Durga Shankar Mishra – Hon’able Secretary – Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs attended West, South and East Zone Webinar as a panelist and encourage the vendors. He discussed the steps taken by government to support them. In the North Zone Webinar – Shri Sanjay Kumar, IAS Joint Secretary (NULM), Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs – addressed the vendors. They explained in detail the process and benefit of PM Svanidhi Yojna and how vendors can avail benefit from it. Municipal Commissioners, Deputy Municipal Commissioners, Deputy Mayors, cabinet Ministers of States, NULM Officers, Directors of Advocacy organisations were part of it. More than 10,000 street vendors attended these webinar via Zoom and facebook live.
