NASVI raises the issues of street vendors’ rights abuse with Chief Minister of Delhi
A delegation of street vendor’s leaders led by Mr. Arbind Singh, National Coordinator – NASVI met Mr. Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of NCT. Of Delhi.
A range of issues were discussed during the meeting. Hon’ble CM was requested to revisit the Street Vendors (protection of Livelihood and Regulation of vending) rules, 2014 to make sure that the eviction, harassment and force relocation must be stopped in Delhi, till schemes get notified and law get implemented.
“Mr. Arbind Singh during the meeting with Hon’ble CM said that street vendors are being dislocated forcibly. He said many Street Vendors of Delhi have been running their business for several years from the same location and they should be allowed to operate and vend till exercise of their registration and creating of vending zone is finalized.
The street vendor’s leaders of India Gate and Rohini also complained to Hon’ble CM that despite the passage of the Bill to protect their rights, they face daily harassment. Hon’ble CM assured the delegation that his government will take necessary steps to ensure that the Delhi street vendors get full protection and he also assured delegation that his government has prepared the draft scheme and he will share the draft scheme with them for their feedback.
