1. PM SVANidhi and Smart Cities Mission of the Ministry ofHousing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA), with the support of GIZ are developing the ‘Urban Design Guidelines for Street Vending’. The intent is to complement the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2074 with guidelines needed for urban local bodies and state governments to accommodate street vendors during road improvement projects, vending zones, market development extra.
2. In this regard, GIZ has onboarded a consortium of The Urban Lab and Mahila Housing Trust to undertake secondary research, and primary studies in select cities viz, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Shimla, Kanpur, Shillong, Mysuru, and Rajapaylam to ensure the guidelines respond to diverse street and vending typologies, geographies, policy norms, and governance ecosystems.
