Workshop Conducted in Gorakhpur to Sensitize Street Vendors on Rights and Schemes

The National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI), in collaboration with Development Alternatives, organized a day-long workshop on the Street Vendors Act, 2014 and PM SVANidhi scheme at Gayatri Shaktipeeth, Amrud Mandi, near Transport Nagar, Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.

The workshop, held today from 10:30 AM onwards, aimed to sensitize street vendors about their rights under the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014, as well as the benefits and procedures under the PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme. A special focus was also placed on creating awareness about the role and importance of the Town Vending Committee (TVC) in ensuring vendor representation and inclusive urban planning.

Participants included a large number of local street vendors, grassroots leaders, and civic officials. The sessions were designed to educate vendors on how to access low-interest loans under PM SVANidhi, secure their vending rights, and actively engage in urban governance through TVCs.

Speaking at the event, representatives from NASVI and Development Alternatives emphasized the importance of legal literacy and financial empowerment for street vendors, who form an essential part of the urban informal economy.

Arbind Singh, National Coordinator of NASVI, Stated, ‘Such awareness programs are instrumental in building vendor capacity, fostering inclusion, and ensuring the implementation of pro-vendor policies at the grassroots level’.
