Patna has the highest number of street vendors in Bihar, with nearly 40,000 vendors, according to data released by NASVI. Across the state, the total number of street vendors exceeds 2 lakh, highlighting their significant contribution to urban economies and everyday livelihoods.
Street vendors play a crucial role in providing affordable goods and services while supporting local economies. However, despite their importance, many vendors continue to face challenges related to access to designated vending spaces, legal protection, and proper implementation of existing provisions.
Strengthening systems on the ground, ensuring fair implementation of the Street Vendors Act, and expanding access to schemes like PM SVANidhi remain key to securing the rights and livelihoods of street vendors across the state.
