Work4Progress Project – Gorakhpur

The programme in its current phase, i.e. Phase-5 or Mainstreaming Phase, aims to scale inclusive solutions that promote the setup of local businesses leading to sustainable economic growth, while encouraging innovation and, particularly,  Market innovation and Mainstreaming of replicable prototype with State Departments. This will be achieved through simultaneous action at district, state, and national levels with multi-actor “entrepreneurship ecosystems”. At the district level, the programme will prioritize access to enterprise support services through innovative digital solutions operated by community institutions such as Cluster Level Federations (CLFs), Town Level Federations (TLFs), and  District Entrepreneurship Coalitions  (DECs). At the state level, the priority will be to bring about convergence for acceleration in new geographies. The programme will strengthen and expand its engagement with the Government of Uttar Pradesh to disseminate existing new prototypes as well as integrate the social innovation approach in existing regulatory frameworks. At the national level, the Centre of Social Innovation and Inclusive Entrepreneurship will be established to anchor knowledge-building and learning for policy action. The Centre will also drive the co-creation of innovative solutions between platform and network partners.

In alignment with this vision, Nasvi Street Foods Private Limited, in collaboration with program partners, will drive innovation and expansion of both new and existing systemic prototypes to establish inclusive market zones. This initiative will focus on creating structured, accessible, and sustainable marketplaces that support street vendors and micro-entrepreneurs. Furthermore, the Nasvi will actively engage with statutory bodies and government departments to formalize these prototypes, advocating for their integration into official regulatory frameworks and ensuring long-term institutional adoption.

To achieve this, the main objectives of the program are:

  1. Develop targeted advocacy channels and strategies to engage departments in mainstreaming of DEC at the district level and state levels
  2. Strengthen existing market associations and establish new ones, uniting nominated officers barriers to form town-level committees at the block level in Gorakhpur. Additionally, integrate TLF with the District Entrepreneurship Coalition to facilitate their formal adoption by government departments, particularly in urban planning and affairs, to support street vendors and nano enterprises.
  3. Night Bazaars (Safe Market) and vending zones in Gorakhpur will give women-led local vendors, food sellers, and artists a safe and clean space to run their businesses for longer hours and boost their earnings and  incorporate women-led e-rickshaws, providing safe mobility for women and girls in night bazaars.

Target Communities: The programme will continue its attention on inclusivity with a focus on the entrepreneurial aspirations of women, specially abled and socially marginalized groups. A minimum of 70% of direct beneficiaries will be women and youth with at least 60% from rural areas (Piprauli block) and the rest from peri-urban areas of Gorakhpur.
