Promoting Food Safety & Hygiene in Manipur

In a collaborative effort to foster a culture of safe food and reduce food-borne diseases, the National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI), with the support of Nestlé India, organized a Food Safety Training and Certification (FoSTaC) program for 300 street food vendors in Manipur.

The initiative, backed by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the Department of Health & Family Welfare (DoHFW), Government of Manipur, aims to encourage street vendors to adopt improved hygiene practices—enhancing their livelihoods, protecting public health, and strengthening the state’s gastronomic tourism.

Mr. Somorjit Salam, Special Secretary of DoHFW, commended the training for its positive role in improving health outcomes, supporting tourism, and contributing to economic development. The inaugural session was graced by Dr. Chambo Gonmei, Director of DoHFW, along with Mr. Surojit Mukherjee, Head – Corporate Affairs, Nestlé India, and Mr. Sanjay Simon Sen, Senior Manager – Corporate Affairs, Nestlé India.
