Street vendors in Varanasi are facing continued harassment and eviction in the name of anti-encroachment, raising serious concerns over their livelihoods. In the Dashashwamedh area, vendors allege action even in designated vending zones, along with fines and seizure of goods.
The Market Committee President and NASVI member were detained at Dashashwamedh police station and remain in custody.
NASVI stands firmly with street vendors and strongly condemns such harassment, demanding immediate release and strict accountability in line with the Street Vendors Act.
