Following the ongoing harassment, excessive fees, and denial of basic vending rights in Chandigarh, NASVI has formally written to the Chief Secretary, the Hon’ble Governor, and the Municipal Commissioner of Chandigarh.
The letters highlight serious violations of the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014, including forced relocation, demolition of stalls, confiscation of goods, and unjust penalties imposed on vendors—especially in Sector 20.
Street vendors cannot be charged hefty fees while being denied the right to store goods or vend at their allotted spaces. Such practices threaten livelihoods and dignity.
We urge the authorities to act with justice, sensitivity, and legality, and to immediately halt arbitrary actions against vendors.
NASVI stands firmly with street vendors in their struggle for the right to livelihood.
