Ensure Space for Street Vendors, Declare Vending Zones
Street vendors are an integral part of our cities’ economy, culture, and daily life. Yet, millions of street vendors across India continue to face frequent evictions, insecurity, and harassment due to the absence of designated and legally recognised vending zones.
To highlight this ongoing injustice, we have launched the campaign:
“Ensure Space for Street Vendors, Declare Vending Zones.”
Objectives of the Campaign
- To amplify the voices of street vendors through digital platforms
- To highlight the urgent need for designated vending zones in urban areas
- To demand effective implementation of the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014
- To advocate for dignity, security, and livelihood protection for street vendors
What We Are Doing
As part of this campaign, we are:
- Sharing photographs and videos of street vendors from different parts of the city
- Presenting first-person testimonies of vendors highlighting daily challenges such as evictions and loss of income
- Creating public awareness about how the absence of vending zones affects livelihoods and families
- Urging responsible urban authorities to declare and implement vending zones
Our Demand
- Immediate declaration of permanent, safe, and legal vending zones
- An end to arbitrary evictions and harassment of street vendors
- Recognition of street vendors as an essential part of urban planning and local economies
Our Belief
Cities can only be truly inclusive when
those who sustain the city are also given space within it.
Ensure Space for Street Vendors.
Declare Vending Zones.
