NASS organizes National Conference in New Delhi
National Alliance for Social Security (NASS) organized a two-day National Conference on 3rd and 4th December, 2014 at Vishwa Yuvak Kendra, New Delhi. The theme of the conference was Centre Staging Social Security for the Informal Economy Workers in India. The main objective of the conference was to discuss various issues of the informal sector workers as well as the reasons for the failure of delivery mechanisms of social security schemes and bring forth these issues before the government to facilitate better policy formulation and implementation. The conference brought more than 200 informal sector worker leaders from different parts and regions of the country apart from politicians, academicians, young professionals, entrepreneurs and others together onto one platform to deliberate upon and highlight the challenges faced by the informal sector workers and the policy changes required to address these challenges. The conference received adequate attention of Hon’ble Labour Minister of India Mr. Bandaroo Dattatreya who pressed the political commitment to deal with the issues of informal sector workers. At the end of the conference, a future course of action was prepared to proceed further in the process of securing the effective implementation of the Social Security Act and enabling the informal sector workers to access the benefits under the various social security schemes.
