New Delhi, Aug 1 (KNN) Miffed over the exploitation of street vendors, the National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) has demanded an immediate stop of seizure of push carts and goods of street vendors by municipal officials.
In a letter written to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Anil Baijal, NASVI has expressed strong disappointment at the way street vendors are being treated in the Post COVID lockdown.
Arbind Singh the National Co-ordinator pointed out that while the entire humanity particularly the marginalized communities are at the cross roads due to Covid19 and subsequent lockdown, the Municipal and police inspectors rather than appreciating and supporting the struggle of street vendors are seizing and breaking their carts and goods and extorting money.
”On one hand the Prime Minister has launched PMSVANIDHI Yojna to restore the business of street vendors and is also monitoring the progress but on the other hand the municipal and police officials continue to put vendors on the edge,” he added.
He also pointed out that still in Delhi the survey of vendors has not been conducted and vendors have not been issued certificate of vending.
In the letter, he has also urged the LG of Delhi to stop the practice of seizure of goods and push carts by municipal and also sought to issue instruction for quick conduct of survey and issue of certificate of vending to street vendors.
While demanding immediate opening of the weekly markets, NASVI also urged Delhi governor to identify the vending zones across Delhi.
