No more fun and festivity at weekly markets in Noida
Thursday, October 15th 2009

All weekly markets have disappeared from NOIDA at one stroke of an order from the authority. In this Diwali, more than 3000 weekly market vendors will celebrate diwali in darkness as their sole source of earning has vanished. Although there are smiles at the face of the owner of big malls as their sale has increased manifold ,for the vendors there is no one to listen to their owes.

Weekly markets are a place where thousand of people visit and purchase variety of material of daily use at cheaper rates. It benefits not only the customers but also a source of livelihood for thousand of vendors. These self-employed entrepreneurs are not demanding jobs from the government but asking for allowing them to earn a decent livelihood denial of which may be resulted in increase of law and order problem at the city.

Weekly market is a concept which is not alien to the other world. In all develop countries there are weekly markets but with proper regulation. As cities developed it incorporate and integrate all section of people to its fold and make cities a place for all. But NOIDA authority’s gives an impression that poor and downtrodden has no place at city and all people will procure material from malls and retail shops which is practically not possible for majority. As a concern citizen, we appeal to the authority to withdraw this decision and allow vendors to earn their livelihood.
