Indefinite Hunger Strike

Bihar Street Vendors Plan Indefinite Hunger Strike against Bihar Government’s continued denial in Implementation of Street Vendors Policy

From 17 July at Patna R. Block.

Demand

To pass and issue gazette regarding State Street Vendors Policy in coming monsoon session of legislative assembly.

On several occasions Hon’ble Bihar Chief Minister and Urban Development Minister made promises and declarations to catalyze positive steps for regulation, regularization and welfare of deprived street vendors in the state. Despite, no progress has been made in this regard till date. NASVI has attempted all possible democratic efforts against continued exploitation and harassment of more than 10 lakh street vendors in the state of Bihar. Bihar Government still appears to be unaffected and compassionless towards these street vendors.

Now, street vendors under the representation of NASVI have been forced to speed up their movement. In order to lodge strong protest against state Govt. dispassionate attitude towards the welfare of street vendors and strengthen the demand of policy implementation, Indefinite hunger strike will be begin at Patna R. Block circle from 17th July 2010.

On 13th July 2010, the delegation from NASVI (National Association of Street Vendors of India) met Deputy Chief Minister & Urban Development Minister, Mr. Sushil Kumar Modi and reinstated their demand to immediately enforce state policy/ legislation related to welfare of street vendors.

We again request State Govt. to fulfill their promise and meet our one- point demand urgently.
